Higher Education and Campus MinistryHigher Education and Campus Ministries General Board of Higher Education and Ministry Mission The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry leads The United Methodist Church in the recruitment, preparation, nurturing, education, and support of Christian leaders – lay and clergy – for the mission of Christ in the world. Vision A new generation of Christian leaders who commit to Jesus Christ and are characterized by intellectual excellence, moral and spiritual courage, and holiness of heart and life. History The United Methodist Church created the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. It operates on behalf of the United Methodist Church to prepare and assist those who are called into professional ministry and to provide access to church-related higher education to all who desire it. The chief administrative officer is the general secretary. The board oversees the United Methodist institutions of higher education. United Methodist-Related Schools, Colleges/Universities and Theological Schools American Methodism has founded more than 1,200 institutions of higher education. One hundred twenty-three of these are related to The United Methodist Church. These schools are great and can be found across the United States and range in enrollment from 200 to 15,000 students. Vision As a church family, we want our students to not only know that it is possible to go to college and beyond, but that it is possible to acquire funding for their education. We want to help guide them in their search for scholarship and grant opportunities available to them. Our hope is that they become educated young adults who will pursue their dreams for success; live a life with integrity as they reflect the values common with church doctrine; and as Christian leaders, give back to their church and to their community.
